Holiday Hollywood Blockbusters Coming Soon

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (November 22, 2013)

This sequel starring Jennifer Lawrence is sure to be a big hit. Since the original lived up to a ton of hype, there's no reason to think that the follow-up story about Katniss Everdeen won't be a huge success as well.

Dallas Buyers Club (December 6, 2013)

Matthew McConaughey takes on an unusual role based on his history, as he plays Ron Woodruff, a drug addict who is diagnosed with HIV. McConaughey lost a ton of weight for the role in order to appear sickly rather than buff. Dallas Buyers Club is a moving story based on a series of newspaper articles. McConaughey works alongside Jennifer Garner, who he starred with in Ghosts of Girlfriends Past.

American Hustle (December 13, 2013)

This drama about a con artist who is forced to work with the feds has a superstar cast featuring Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, Amy Adams and Jennifer Lawrence. That should get it plenty of attention this December.

The Monuments Men (December 20, 2013)

This is the tale of art historians and museum curators who worked together to try to recover works of art before Hitler and the Nazis destroyed them. All you really need to know in order to put this one high on the must-see list is that it stars George Clooney and Matt Damon, who are both known for selecting good scripts. Some people have dubbed it 2013's Argo, and while it may be difficult to live up to that level of praise, it's sure to be a big box office hit.

47 Ronin (December 27, 2013)

For those looking for an action flick that isn't going to fit right in with all of the political thrillers and futuristic science fiction stories of the last few years, 47 Ronin is an interesting option. It's the story of a band of samurai who are trying to avenge their master's death and dishonor. Keanu Reeves is the headliner in the cast, which features primarily Japanese actors.

Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit (December 27, 2013)

This is another in the series of Jack Ryan movies, with Chris Pine playing the lead role in yet another Tom Clancy story. This will be the first to be released since the famous author's death, so it is sure to draw a lot of attention this holiday season. In this story, we pick up Ryan's career early on, as he discovers a Russian plot to crash the American economy through terrorism.
